New Year doesn't necessarily mean new sets of resolutions, new gadgets or wishes. Sometimes, the old ones might still be good and just need a little make-over.

I was actually cleaning our 20+ year old Nikon fan. Dirt and dust are all over and so I decided to dismantle it. After I was done with the cleaning, I thought of visiting my mother's junkyard where some unusable stuff are stored before assembling the fan back to its form. Found this old Asahi fan with its nice blade intact. I salvaged those useful parts and voila! My antiquated fan now looks like NEW! I really thought I needed a new one. A little make over just get things done.

Sometimes we need to learn from our experience. Some are just logically the same and same solutions applies. We just need to be conscious with ourselves and our surroundings.

I'm doing good handling our finances this 2012. A lot of adjustments and discipline imposed to achieve my goal. God willing, 2013 will be better. Go go go wooosh! Happy New Year everyone. Have a safe one. God bless.

I'm no expert on marcotting. In fact, this is my very first attempt to do such a thing. It's passion and the love of my plant that drives me to do so. I have this rare kind of plant named Caribbean Jasmine. I've already been to several nurseries but failed to find one.

Bought this plant on a once a year occasion where gardeners gathered during the feast of St. Augustine in our city. The event was called Agro Fair where plants are displayed for sale. Anyway, to make the story short, I wanted to have several of this kind. Tried cutting a matured stalk to be propagated but failed. Did some research and found out that the only safe way to do it is through Marcotting.

This tutorial is based on what I have understood and on the available materials I can find in our area.

Materials Needed:
1 4X8 inces cellopane
2 adhesive tape
scissor
sharp knife cutter
compost soil

Step 1: Select a plant. In my case, I used my Caribbean Jasmine as subject.
Step 2: Select a matured branch. Remove around 2 inches of the skin. See image below

Step 3: Cut the base of the cellophane making it open from top to bottom.

Step 4: Slowly insert the cellophane to the targeted branch. Settle it just below the peeled portion of the branch.

Step 5: Seal the base of the branch with adhesive tape.

Step 6: Pour in the compost soil. Make sure you added a little bit of water to it and also, make sure that the peeled portion are covered with soil.

Step 7: Wrap around the top portion of the cellophane and seal it with tape.

A good photographer doesn't need a SLR cam to become one. SLR alone doesn't even make you a good photographer. It's the Eye of the Photographer not the Lens that matters. It's how you see things not how your gadget views them that makes a good shot.

I've been having fun growing Amaryllis lately. But I didn't have much time recently to blog about it. Although I already have some bunch of pics about it posted on Facebook documenting their growth progress from buds till bloom, I'll find time one day to have them shared on my blog.

This latest innovation that I conceptualized from decorative glass jars is something I cannot afford to miss to blog. I actually saw an article about this using glass jars. It was also then I found out that this plant can also grow without soil. You just have to make sure that the bulb doesn't soak on the water.

I love recycling and so I thought maybe I can create my own version of this using recycled bottles. It wasn't that hard to conceptualized one's idea and so here it is. The tutorial on how to create this useful buddy is very easy and straightforward.

These are the steps. The picture on the right should guide you on some of the details:
1. Cut the upper portion of the bottle.
2. Cut the lid. The hole should be enough for the roots to pass through and its base to settle in.
3. Make cuts some few inches apart around the mouth and then fold outwards.
4. Insert the bulb. Make sure all the roots passes through the hole.
5. Pour in some water enough to reach the base of the roots and never to reach the bulb.

You have to always remember that soaking the bulb on water is not a good idea. It will rotten the bulb for sure and definitely, it's going to miss the bloom.

The idea of growing Amaryllis on water instead of soil has already been proven by many. I myself conducted some research and found several articles to prove it. I admit I haven't proven it myself as this is actually my first project to try this out on water. A month or two, these buds will bloom. I'll cross my fingers. I would appreciate some comments. Disclaimer: be it successful or not, this idea of using recycled bottles to grow Amaryllis is not copied. This is conceptualized from idea of using decorative glass jars using the same principle is applied.

I am not a boxing analyst nor an expert of the rules but if you see a boxer hardly could hit a hard punch to his opponent, beaten hard, kept running to avoid further damage and then win, what would you feel? Which mother goose did those judges who favored Bradley over Pacquiao belong to? Judge Jerry Roth scored the bout 115-113 for Pacquiao, while C.J. Ross and Duane Ford both saw it 115-113 for Bradley. Unlike Pacquiao vs Marquez fight which is bundled with controversy, this one is a pure show of discrimination among the two cheap judges. Real show of trash.


“Can you believe that? Unbelievable,” Arum said. “I went over to Bradley before the decision and he said, `I tried hard but I couldn’t beat the guy.’” “He hurt me a couple of times with his left,” Bradley said. “He’s a beast.” Obviously, Bradley never expected he could win via split decision not even that close.


“I felt he (Pacquiao) won the fight. I felt like there was a gap, where you could see who was winning,” Mayweather Sr. said. You can ask everyone, except judges Ross and Ford, Pacquiao did win the fight all throughout.


If WBO would allow a crap like this to go on, they are slowly losing integrity over its competitor, UFC. 


As I've said, I'm no expert about boxing rules but should WBO make it as a mandatory for a challenger to go after the champion (not otherwise as what most cases happened during Pacquiao fight), boxing will be a lot more exciting and fun to watch. But for now, I could finally say, UFC, where real fight & brawl happens and deserving champions emerges is way a lot better than Boxing where NOT deserving champions declared.


Lastly, I admire Manny Pacquiao's sportsmanship, humility and acceptance of the decision. He is a one great fighter and a true champion. To Bradley, better return the belt or reconsider your career. YOU DON'T DESERVE IT this time.
